I need to see that color in person. Can't decide if I like it or not. I think I do... But it's no Laguna Seca blue!

Si señor.

Pssh, we have like 13 of those. Do you have a BentleyContinental GT? I dont think so. No pics sadly.

I googled translated before asking you... It just made me more confused.

I've seen the following on campus over the last 2 years, to lazy to pull pics off my phone:
1. Lamborghini Gallardo (in blue!)
2. Multiple Porsche Panameras and Cayennes
3. Maserati Quattroporte and GranTurismo
4. V10 M5, E46 M3
5. Corvette Z06 C6
6. More Camaro SSs, Challenger SRT8s, and Mustang GTs than you can count
8. A Fiat 500 Abarth
9. Porsche 997 GT2
10. A pristine 944
11. A Bichin big-block El Camino
12. Multiple Range Rovers
13. Lexus IS-F
14. 370Z (student-driven daily)
15. Tons of Tesla Model Ss, as of recently.
Most of them are faculty, staff, or employees. A few are student-driven. 90% of students don't own cars, so the 10% that do tend to only own showmobiles that their parents bought them because they are quite rich.

Why didn't they make one of the standard colors Laguna Seca Blue? That's all they had to do to soften the blow of electric power steering and a turbo charged engine.

The GT2 is a pretty rare bird. Cool to see that around campus.

I would bet it was driven by a visiting alumni, as I never saw it again. The Lambo on the other hand, that's owned by one of the department heads I think.

I remember the good old days before the real estate bubble burst. Anytime I went out and paid attention to the cars being valeted at restaurants and bars I'd see at least 2 different sub 25 year old dudes rock up in a Gallardo. They were so common.
Then the bubble burst and most of them disappeared...

I have a shit ton of pictures too. The most expensive car I have seen here was a 458 Italia. Oh and there was a Testarossa, 599 GTO, and P4 replica here as well. But those aren't driven by students. They just like GTRs and Gran Turismos. . .
![]() 08/27/2014 at 17:48 |

I don't know my porsches, so I assumed it was a GT2 by the spoiler. It could have been a Turbo or lower model with a body kit, though.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 17:51 |
|
Yeah, well, we have the Chicken Car .
Also, there are a couple of 458s running around, one which reportedly belongs to Jimmy John (yes, the Jimmy John).
![]() 08/27/2014 at 17:57 |

You're right. It definitely could have been a fake GT2. You could make a 997 Turbo look just like a GT2 from the outside.
The only way to know for sure would be to look inside if you were up close. It would take a lot of work and cost to make the interior the same. You'd have to be pretty nuts to spend the money to make the exterior and interior look just like the real deal.

Was it a regular TR or the 512 TR?
We should all buy/steal a 512 TR SOON before the prices go up any more than they have over the last couple years.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 18:03 |

Not many 458s(just the one) but there are at least two GT500s, and there was a Gallardo around here for a little bit, don't know what happened to it.

I've seen so much... GTRs, Panameras, M3s, etc.
This is much better than my down back home.

I got to see the inside, but I wouldn't be able to tell the difference at the time (and I don't remember it well enough now to check).
In my version of reality though, it was a real GT2 and I got to enjoy being within a few inches of it.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 18:13 |

GTRs, Panameras, M3s, and every Audi ever is like a common site here. Funniest part is, you always see them driving in town, the worst place to drive. However I know a few of the GTR dudes do take it to the track.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 18:16 |

Same here. I've seen all the above (except the 458s, which I've only heard about) on campus. Like, why?
Also:
There's at least two, maybe three Opponauts in Champaign. I know there are several of you guys at Purdue. The schools are like an hour and a half apart.
Potential future meet?
![]() 08/27/2014 at 18:18 |

I believe all GT2s came with race buckets and no back seats. I'd have to check to make sure. And a factory roll bar was an option I believe. It's basically a GT3 on steroids.
All that matters is your version of reality! It was fun whether it was real or not because you thought it was real. It's like being in love with a girl who you later realize is insane. Doesn't make the memory of the good times any different...

We should plan one. I was thinking about making one on a Saturday at Cars and Coffee in Indy, or just have a small one ourselves. I think the second one would be a better time than the Cars and Coffee one.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 18:24 |

An Indy meet wouldn't be too far out of the way for the Ohio opponauts. So there's that.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 18:27 |

That is true. Depends on if any of them would want to come!
![]() 08/27/2014 at 18:39 |

I've noticed there are tons of them.
I'm sure at least a few would be interested.

MSU will win that challenge. I saw this posted on Facebook yesterday. When I visit my sister its like being at an exotic car meet.

My sister frequently complains about being nearly hit by kids in Maserati's not paying attention.

A few days ago, I witnessed a C63 gun it the wrong way down a one way street.
I think giving powerful cars to college students (who are probably new to this country, if MSU is anything like UIUC) is a bad idea.

Yeah, she also mentions they are all Asians. There is a fairly hefty Asian foreign population at MSU.

Most of them pay international full tuition, at least here.
I mean, if you can drop $60 per year on your kid's tuition, why not throw in a luxury car on top?
